Installing root
Back to main guide.
Step 1: Preparation
Boot your phone back to normal use mode and, using your phone, download the latest SuperSU flashable zip here: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
You want this file to be on your phone (and know where it is), so
- If you're downloading from the Nexus phone/tablet, the zip will likely be under Downloads
- If you're downloading from the Windows computer, boot the phone up to normal use mode, connect USB, then move the file over. Since you are doing the copy/paste, you should know where to find it on the phone.
Step 2: Reboot into bootloader mode
Either
- bring up the black box and type adb reboot-bootloader , or
- power off your device, then hold Power + Vol Down until vibration, then release Power and KEEP HOLDING VOL DOWN
will bring you back to green-android-open-heart-surgery mode. Navigate up/down with Vol Up/Down to something with the word Recovery in it, select with the Power key.
Step 3: Installing the SuperSU zip
You should see a bunch of buttons on the screen (like Install, Wipe, Mount, Backup, Reboot, etc.). Touch to select Install.
Touch to select (Up A Level) again and again until you don't see it anymore. You are now at the root directory (known as /). Scroll down with your finger and find sdcard, touch to select it.
Scroll down to find Download (or wherever you put the downloaded zip), go in.
You should see the zip file, called something like UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip, select it. Swipe to confirm flash.
Now just reboot and enjoy root.
